Story

Hi, and a huge thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Walk The Walk Worldwide gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now, because we can make such a massive difference to fighting this thing that touches us all. One life, one chance , we aren't here for a longtime so make it a good time. " be swept away, levitate, sing with rapture, dance like a dervish, be deliriously happy, or at least leave yourself open to be..stay open, who knows, lightning could strike!! "   From the bottom of my blisters, one step at a time, on behalf of all of our mothers, daughters, friends and sisters and the special boys in
our lives.. thank you xx 26 Jan 2009

27 Jan-Preparation begins.Fail to plan, plan to fail!! Having completed my SWOT analysis, designated appropriate mandatory training, checked for H&S issues and completed the relevant hazard spotting, risk assessed the situation, looked at contingency planning for the said event , read and read the SOP, booked the days off in STAFFADMIN,  I have finally decided upon my suitable highly motivational training circuit. Fantastic,  so early on in my schedule. I know,..  you are all impressed aren't you?. Don't be. There is a minor logistical problem, it's across the pond in the good old USofA. Central Park. Great views, variable terrain, measured loops,  limited hazards..well.. other than horse dung, joggers, dog walkers, tourists, cyclists, roller bladers, film crews, etc.. On the bright side if I get tired I can always pop into the Apple store, American Girl,FAO Schwartz or stop off at the zoo for a quick visit.. The place is also so full of people who have absolutely no taste in exercise attire that no-one would even notice me. Thank goodness for BA!

I have also managed to find a lip gloss that has been specially designed so that you can attach it to your kit and carry it around the moonwalk.!! It is clearly essential to regularly re-apply lipgloss throughout a 26 mile walk in the dark, so  I shall add it to the list of mandatory training equipment.I have obviously been concerned about totally the wrong things and now realise that I should revert to type and start looking for an appropriate handbag and matching shoes!

28 Jan-I walked 6 miles today...in court shoes. I really am going wrong. I am also advised that I need "more stuff" including a personal attack alarm that doubles as a torch, socks,,yeuch, and I learn that my fingers will swell up like sausages if I don't power walk properly. Seems I may need a rucksack for all the stuff now..I'm sure there must be a website for that!

31 Jan- 10 miles in 2 hrs 20 mins in trainers, with my training partner (my ipod!..no lipgloss) ok i thought. Then Bill (my lovely dad, said it was no more than 8 miles and made me measure it in my car...8.1 miles). I need to walk faster and longer !!

01 Feb-6 miles (agreed by dad..)my ears don't fit my headphones!then it snowed..and snowed...for days...resort to reading a book on walking.I'm up to 8 miles with no pain.

12 Feb- I'm off to Egypt for sun and trainingto escape birthday and valentines day.

11th Feb- Dogs and Plastic surgeon decide i'm NOT off to Egypt

13th Feb-

14th Feb-

01 Mar-fundraising target not too far off now, just the training thats v def not on track. Lots of studying of hospital waiting rooms and operating theatres is getting in the way. have read book cover to cover though.

14 Mar-Did you miss me?No training, none, zilch, nada.. thanks to 2 tiny dogs with v sharp teeth,  dogs who bit through my finger and broke it in 4 places. Thanks to plastic surgery trauma unit at the Royal Free I still have my finger. . Ok.. training plan done and I'm really looking forward to the 20 mile final push on the 7th of June NOT.Have learned how to load IPOD with new tunes so  start again on Monday. Honest!!

06 Jun-2 weeks to go..search for seamless socks continues. supposed to do 20 miles today...not happening in rain.reschedule tomorrow.

10 Jun-Bra decorated, hotel booked, flight being monitored. I'm NOT ready

11 Jun- ooh its getting close did 5 miles fast pace.all good UNTIL next morning and ouch!!

12 Jun-fab new M&S "no blister socks" arrived. Covered feet in Vaseline as advised, applied new socks, walked 7 miles steady pace...hey no blisters and pedicure in tact!! Stretched but still hurt next morning.

13 Jun- final pack arrived. Excited and apprehensive.Logged onto discussion forum which I've been avoiding. Very emotional. Had to stop reading.!! Compiling packing list and did more modifications to bra!! Bumbag arived.......i'm trusting in the fact that IT IS A TARDIS

14 Jun-more bra modifications.A BIG THANK YOU to all of you who have sponsored me and o Ms JD for your technical advice and support. Now starting to worry about not getting on flights. FMU this is not a jumpseat rqst .This is a "We r going in the jumpseats!'

15 Jun-packing bag today and figuring out just how to fit EVERYTHING i need for 26.2 miles in that tiny bum bag. The bum bag is the tiny thing not my bum!!! 5 miles today.

Well what a day. Up at 5 then to LHR T5 first EDI flight of the day which  thankfully had some seats. Arrived in EDI and had a speedy transfer to the hotel, which wasn't ready. Did a tour of Princess Street and the shops.!!!Started to pour with rain, and I thought "oh no". The day passed without sleep and headed down to the park for 8. Was cold and windy but dry. V well organsied and a great atmosphere and v emotional in the big pink tent, as everyone came together and listened to the speakers. Then it was "hurry up yellow start yr off in 5 minutes", huge dash to start, and at midnight thousands of us passed through the start with Lorraine Kelly.  A chilly night but a beatuful sunrise over the Firth of Forth, brilliant sunshine by the time passed along the beach at 22 miles, and before I knew it it was over. V emotional night, v glad I did it, and v glad I did the training. 6.5 hrs walking 1.5 hrs toilet queues. Debs was right the bushes are v def a better option!! I couldn't t believe it, only 1 small blister and apart from being knackered arriving back at London after about 36 hours no sleep a great experience. I will v def be doing it again, London 2010 here I come.I'm going to keep walking .

Thanks to everyone for your support , messages, calls on route and all your good wishes, it made such a difference. here's to next year!!!
