Fundraising for Children's Hospices Across Scotland, (CHAS)
Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
I’d like to tell you about ‘the adventure of a lifetime’ I am about to take part in. The Marathon Des Sables (MDS) billed as ‘the toughest footrace in the world’,a 6 stage ultra marathon ran over 250km (increased this year being the 25th anniversary) of the western Sahara desert. I will be running in temperatures in excess of 50c, over various different terrains, these include some of the biggest sand dunes in the Sahara and a 1000m mountain! I will be self sufficient during this event, carrying all my own food and equipment with only set check points along the way to refill my water supplies. Mentally and physically this will be the toughest challenge I have ever set my sights on. I leave the UK on the 1st of April (fools day...ironic?) and return on the 12th. The race is ran from the 4th -10th, giving runners a little time to acclimatise before and R&R after.
I’ve included the MDS web page so you can take a look at the event and also a blog address as I hope to do a daily blog for the 12 days I’m in the sahara.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has had a part in getting me to the ‘start line’. I hope I do you, and myself proud in crossing the ‘finish line’. Hopefully without too many blisters or sense of humour failures (though my friends would probably tell you the latter maybe a little trickier).
