Story

  • Hi - I'm back.

I leave for the 5th "final time" for the Himalayas on the 29th March 2011 in the hope of adding to my 3 summits by succeeding without the use of supplemental oxygen.

I will be climbing in support of two charities - the NSPCC [National Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children] and the Childs i Foundation, a Ugandan based charity which I Chair, dedicated to rescuing abandoned babies.

As part of my preparation for the Everest attempt I will be setting ropes and establishing a new route on Lhotse [8500m]. The Everest push will come late in the season when conditions are warmest and I am best acclimatised.

Once again I appeal to your collective generosity - all but £2000 of the £350,000 I have raised over previous climbs has come from individuals - not corporates. It is people like you who have made such a difference to the lives of so many kids and hopefully I can also convince a business or two to get fully involved.

As you must all know by now donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Please dig deep - the kids are worth it, and I personally ensure that the money donated impacts the children directly - this is no "black hole".

Ludicrously large donations are always very welcome, but every single pound makes a tangible difference. There is no irrelevant amount.

Thank you all once again - and I promise "this is the final time".

    David.
