Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

You may know that earlier this year Jason, one of my best mates, lost his father to cancer.  Gordon Applebey was heavily involved with the Ellen MacArthur Trust, a charity that focuses on giving life-changing experiences to children and teenagers suffering from cancer and leukaemia, through taking them out to experience the thrill of sailing.  Gordon was also generous enough to regularly donate his beautiful yacht, Scarlet Oyster, to the trust, a tradition that is now carried on by the Applebey family.

My friend, Rob, had the idea of the triathlon, and after a bit of persuasion I agreed.  Seeing as I was in, it seemed like the only right thing to do was to dedicate it to someone who was always kind and had a big smile for everyone, as well as bringing smiles to others.  It also seems fitting to try and raise some money for the charity for which he worked so tirelessly.

You're probably also aware that I'm not a "fitness fanatic", and you may be smirking at the idea of me wheezing my way round a triathlon course, my system being more accustomed to late nights & tequila than early mornings & lycra.  Well, feel free to smirk away, but dig out some moular and sponsor me and you have my word I'll give it everything I've got.

The Triathlon itself is a sprint featuring a 400m swim, a 23km cycle and a 5km run. and will be at Stratford-upon-Avon on the 10th May 2009 - for more details see the following link: http://www.fun2tri.co.uk/Stratford-new/index.htm

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Ellen MacArthur Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Thank you for your support.

About the charity

The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust inspires young people aged 8-24 to believe in a brighter future living through and beyond cancer. For many young people simply picking up where they left off before their diagnosis just isn’t possible. So, when treatment ends the Trust’s work begins.
