Raising money for Batten Disease Family Association

Batten disease is a group of rare, progressive neurodegenerative, genetic metabolic diseases that occur in children & adults worldwide. The BDFA's Vision is to be the central point of excellence in the UK for supporting affected families funding research into a potential cure.

Story

WE DID IT!!

We're raised money for The BDFA.

The Batten Disease Family Association, whose mission is to enable everyone who is affected by Batten disease to live life to the full and secure the care and support they need until a cure is found.

Batten Disease is an illness which affects roughly 3 - 5 children in the UK per year, and as many as 1 in 12,500 people are suspected to be carriers of recessive genes which cause the illness.

Andy's cousin Emma was unfortunately one of the unlucky children to be born with the disease. Whilst she unfortunately passed just before her 11th birthday, the BDFA helped her immediate and extended family cope during this devastating time, and continue to help those affected by the illness.

We have each entered events that happen around the same time.

The events are:

Matt: Manchester Half Marathon 9th October,

Andy: Ironman 70.3 Portugal 15th October and

Dale: The Eden Project Half Marathon 16th October.
