Story
Three Peaks. Three Charities. One Big Climb.
On Thursday 14th August, a team of 11 of us are taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge — tackling Pen-y-ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough — all within 12 hours.
We’re doing it not just for the physical challenge, but to raise money for three incredible charities, each chosen because they mean something personal to members of our team:
- Plymouth & Cornwall Cancer Fund: Supporting local cancer treatment and care, - chosen by Ben Payne:
A family member is undergoing very intensive chemo and radiotherapy for cancer. The timing is terrible, as their partner is also on maternity leave, so incoming funds are very limited. They are too proud to accept 'charity' from the wider family. PCCF have been huge support for them, and this charity deserve our support.
- Don't Lose Hope: Offering mental health support and free counselling in our community - chosen by Stuart Horn:
Don't Lose Hope has been a great support to my family in the recent months. The range of services they provide to the local community make them an invaluable hub for support, whether it be though counselling, the community garden or their cafe that helps fund the services they offer. I want to help raise funds to allow them to continue doing what they’re doing and to help other families who need support
- Brain Tumour Research: Funding vital research into brain tumours - chosen by Andrew Richardson:
My nephew William, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour at just 13. Now 18, he has shown incredible strength through years of treatment and has just completed his A-levels. Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40, yet receive less than 1% of UK cancer research funding. I’m walking to help change that — for William, and for every family affected.
