Story

So, another year older and one we should be thankful for. I will be turning 50 this year and wanted to do something to help my son with his illness and give back for all the support we have had through the last few years. So, I asked my children if they would join me in a sporting activity in aid getting older, getting fitter and to help others out. Both of them are fine swimmers and enjoy cycling so we found a triathlon! However, we found one with a difference https://www.supbikerun.co.uk/ stand up paddle board 3km, bike ride 21km and run 5km.

To encourage us further we asked if anyone would like to join us and we now have a team of 13 attempting the Ullswater SUPBIKERUN in September. Each person has their own reasons for competing but covering new ground, making new friends, reuniting with old and staying well are the main factors. To do this we are doing it for charity and my part of the arm is to raise money for the Rosemere Cancer Centre. This is a charity close to our hearts as it has helped me and a number of our family to remain well.

Our story with Rosemere starts in 2015 when my daughter’s godmother was investigated for Breast cancer in her 30’s and totally unexpected with no family history. She rose to the challenge and has over come the disease. Then my son’s god mother succumbed to the same disease in 2017 and yet again she fought it well to beat it and we were there throughout. Then finally in 2019 it seemed it was my turn and on good Friday the lump was found and to the GP I went to be told I had breast cancer on May 11th 2019 and proceeded with my intervention. All three of us went through Rosemere Cancer centre and although all three had different cancers (even though they were breast cancer) all three are currently well – and hopefully by the end of the summer will be fit as well.

So, as myself and children want to set a challenge to get fit through 2022 and give back at the same time. Along with a few friends we have picked up on the way and are very grateful for their support.

As we start this journey, we have already been over whelmed by the support of others to do the triathlon with us (13 of us!) but also the support team is growing and it means so much to us. Cancer itself has hit many of my friends and family, young and old and in different parts of the country so if you would like to also help in any way then please follow the page and give where you can.
