Story

ALIYA BEGUM DIAGNOSTIC CENTRE

Currently over a million people in Azad Kashmir live in dire poverty, with the average family living off a daily wage of just 1000 Rupees (£5).

Imagine seeing a loved one rapidly deteriorating in health, and you're unable to pay for medical support due to poverty. Heartbreakingly, this leads to the spread of the disease and no choice but to tolerate the pain. All which could be prevented!

Currently there are no medical institutions anywhere in the region that provide free healthcare to those who cannot afford it.

The nearest adequately equipped diagnostic and treatment facilities are over 120 miles, in Islamabad. The average cost to hire a transport per visit to Islamabad is 3000 Rupees. On public transport, which is the main source of travel for most patients, it takes up to 4 hours. In addition to this, due to the conditions of such transportation, patients with critical illnesses expose themselves to major risks of infections and other complications.

In most cases, patients make four visits to Islamabad for a single test result and to receive diagnosis. This is even before treatment begins.

Currently, MAA Foundation are funding cancer diagnosis for the poor in Azad Kashmir and are providing free hospital transport to patients, so they can receive treatment from Islamabad or Lahore with ease.

However, in 2021 we aim to set up the first ever facility in Azad Kashmir where the less fortunate, who are unable to afford medical aid, will not longer need to worry about finances, as they will be able to access it quick and free of charge.

According to the World Health Organisation

two thirds of cancer related deaths in the third world could be avoided by early diagnosis and intervention"

GETTING INVOLVED!

Our dream Sadqa Jariya project, that will save countless lives for generations to come, will cost £250,000. This is how you can help us achieve this:

- VOLUNTEER FOR US BY MAKING A £1,000 PLEDGE

- SPREAD AWARENESS OF OUR PROJECT AND RECRUIT MORE PEOPLE TO TAKE ON THE CHALLENGE

- SET UP CHALLENGES/EVENTS IN 2021 TO MEET YOUR TARGET

You will receive full support from us.

Every volunteer will have their name or the name of a loved one they have raised in memory of, engraved on a wall of the diagnostic centre.

You will also have the opportunity to personally fly out to see this project come to life!

For as long as the burdens are removed from the shoulders of the poor and they are given the real support they need, each participant in this campaign will be rewarded eternally, Insha'Allah.

Please note: Zakat payments need to be clearly stated in the comment box or directly to the team member you are supporting, so an accurate record can be kept and these funds can be used appropriately.
