Story
The Aram Initiative envisions thriving communities in Sri Lanka shaped by its youth. We are dedicated to uncovering and nurturing areas of potential through a youth-led platform that facilitates discovery on the ground with our trips, engages in knowledge exchange, and implements sustainable development solutions through planned initiatives. This year 28 young adults will visit Sri Lanka in June 2024.
We listen to what the institutions would like from us and also what we hear and observe on the trip and the best use of our volunteers’ skill sets, conduct a variety of projects and spend on donations that aim to maximise impact.
Our donations focus on:
1) Providing immediate joy through recreational activities such as sports arts, and music alongside mindfulness and medical checks. We also focus on improving location facilities, and donating essential educational, sports and music equipment all delivered on the Aram Trip in June
2) Aram Initiatives - long-term support through building systems with expert input that address needs that have been identified on the the trip delivered by the Aram Initiatives post-trip e.g. Health initiatives, Mental health interventions, Infrastructure projects etc
An example of how we used donations last year was building a chicken coop at a boys’ orphanage in Batticaloa, promoting responsibility and self-sustainability by enabling the boys to raise, use, and sell chickens and eggs, thus reducing food costs and creating an income stream.

Snippet of this year: We aim to enhance educational access through the installation of virtual screens for the Tea Leaf Trust, improve water access with a tank project in a remote village, and support agricultural development with a microfinance project in Mullaitivu. These are just a few examples of how we plan to make a difference
Zero Admin Costs: As done in 2023 with TamilAid as our facilitating partners, 100% of all donations will go directly to the purchase of donations intended for its recipients - delivered on the trip and beyond. View
