Story
Our Mother devoted a great deal of her life helping others; throughout her long career in teaching, then later her voluntary work, and of course for her beloved family and many dear friends. We have taken a great deal of comfort and pride in the messages from so many people, by whom she is fondly remembered for making a positive impact to their lives, whether large or small, recently or many years ago.
We therefore feel that it would be most fitting to respectfully ask that anyone planning to send or bring flowers to the funeral, consider instead making a donation to one of the two charities we have selected:
Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism: The Diabetes team at OCDEM are simply amazing and we cannot thank them enough for the wonderful care and support they provided to our Mum over the last 10 years of her life.
Please note: that whilst the money will go to Oxford Hospitals Charity, it will be ringfenced for OCDEM.
Diabetes UK - Know diabetes. Fight diabetes. | Diabetes UK: Mum lived with Type 1 Diabetes for more than 47 years, during which time the science and technology behind supporting people with this condition changed dramatically; from boiling reusable glass syringes in a saucepan to sterilise them, all the way to wireless devices enhanced by artificial intelligences. Mum saw it all and Diabetes UK (formerly the British Diabetic Association), contributed greatly to those, and many other positive changes, around helping people with Diabetes.
We feel that supporting either of these very worthy causes is an appropriate way to pay our respects to Mum and honour both her memory and lasting legacy of love and care.
Thank you,
Carole, Michele & Stuart
