Team fundraising for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity

Raising money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity

It's bewildering and unsettling for anyone going into hospital but especially for children and that is why we are a fundraising hospital. We raise funds to enhance the experience of our patients by providing state of the art medical equipment and facilities and creating a child-friendly environment.

Story

We are the Bonkers Bikers - a bunch of charitably minded railway employees and affiliates that take on multi day cycling rides whilst raising money for worthy causes. Over the last three years we managed to raise over £73k for a range of charities, including Railway Children and Birmingham Children's hospital.

This year we have a new principal sponsor in Freightliner Group, who are kindly providing two support vehicles and some branded Lycra - everything else including travel, accommodation and food is self funded by the participants. In recognition of our new Sponsors we have given this year's ride a freight theme. Day one will see us ride from Freightliner's Midland Road depot in Leeds and head out to Hull to catch the overnight Ferry to Rotterdam. A sleep deprived ride on day two will start with a photo Opportunity at Freightliner Rail Feeding hub in Rotterdam followed by c100miles on the road before an overnight in a converted Dutch monastery. Finally, on day three we will head to Cologne via the Siemens Wildenrath test track, finishing at the iconic German Cathedral in the City centre.

Riders this year are me, Martin Ward (no relation), Paul Williams, Steve Fisher, Michael Stokes, Chris Reid, Chris Rothwell, Nick Westcott, Ange Steward, Sam Rayment, Sam Alexander, Gary Mullins Downes, Adrian Champion, Hedley Phillips, Dave Meredith, Sarah Young. Tam Giez, Anthony Miles, Marion Rayment and Guy Santos will be our awesome support team.

This year our principal charity will once again be Birmingham Children's Hospital, an amazing charity that does so much to help and support seriously ill kids. Having seen first hand how they use their donations I can assure you that all money raised will be put to good use, help save lives, and make really difficult circumstances that little bit less scary.

Click the link, take a look at the team, and maybe one of them might persuade you to make a donation. Either way, it is still worth a peruse and flicking some of the pics from past adventures and training updates.

Thanking you in advance for clicking on the links, if only to see what we are up to and keep abreast of the pictures and updates that will be added to the team pages as we progress with our training and special events. Any kind donations are a welcome bonus for which we are truly thankful 🥰

Wish us luck!

Thank you ❣
