Literacy is critical for young people’s development and removing barriers to employment, with illiterate people earning 30-42% less than their literate counterparts.

Did you know that 1 in 4 children leave primary school with poor reading skills, and disadvantaged children are disproportionately affected? Of these children, only 10% go on to achieve passes in GCSE English and Maths. .

Bookmark works to improve children’s literacy by promoting a reading for pleasure culture in primary schools, with a focus on supporting children in the most disadvantaged communities.

Bookmark is working to help children become confident, joyful readers through one-to-one support, books, and literacy resources.
