Story
Two Friends. One Wall. One Mission.
Boobs, Boots and a Bloody Big Wall
On 5 September 2026, we (Jo and Jane)will take on five of the toughest sections of the Great Wall of China to raise £8,000 for CoppaFeel! We’re launching this on 4 February – World Cancer Day – because early detection saves lives which we have come to learn is critical.
This isn’t a gentle walk. It’s five gruelling days, up to seven hours a day, at high altitude, across steep, uneven terrain. Think near-vertical steps, loose stone, slippery slopes and walking poles doing some very heavy lifting. To get there, we’ll be committing to six months of focused training.
It’s big. It’s tough. And it matters.
Jo’s story
Six weeks before her 50th birthday, Jo found a lump. No screening, no routine mammogram, just her checking her body and trusting her instinct enough to act. That decision changed everything.
Jo moved through diagnosis and treatment with positivity and calm determination, finding strength in movement and exercise even when energy was low and uncertainty was high. She finished chemotherapy and radiotherapy in April 2025 and, six months later ran a half-marathon. Early detection has meant Jo could keep going.
Are we mad?! Why are we doing this?......
We have raised our families side by side since meeting when the kids were little, and been second mums to each other’s children for years. They’re now young adults, so CoppaFeel!’s message isn’t abstract; it’s very personal. We have been through a fair share of life’s ups and downs. Walking this wall together is our way of honouring what Jo has come through and using it to help others catch breast cancer early, when outcomes are so much better. If sharing Jo’s story, training for this challenge, and tackling a very unforgiving wall helps even one person check sooner, it will be worth every step.
Thank you for supporting us, for supporting CoppaFeel! and for helping turn awareness into action. To find out more about CoppaFeel! head to www.coppafeel.org.
And please, check your chests and pecs. Then remind someone else – male or female – to check theirs.
Thanks so much for your donation & support.
Big love, Jane and Jo
