Team fundraising for Brecon Mountain Rescue Team

Raising money for Brecon Mountain Rescue Team

We are a voluntary search and rescue team that undertakes well over 100 callouts per year. We assist people who are injured or lost in the mountains & rural areas of South & Mid-Wales. Our members are unpaid and we rely solely on fundraising to achieve the £55,000 needed each year to run the team.

Story

Team Composition (The 6 Brave Souls') - Chris Kerr, Clive Thomas, Peter James, Dai Howells, Alun Rees and Ian Owen. Ably supported by 'The Crew' - Paul Cooper, Brian Evans and ‘Gripper’ Clinch.

The “Coast to Crest” Challenge will take place in July 2025, with the aim of raising vital funds for the entirely voluntary Brecon Mountain Rescue Team.

6 brave souls (who could be considered ‘older’), based in the Brecon area of South Wales will be cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats– a route of some 1,000 miles – over 12 days. The gang of 6 are from different walks of life – some are teachers; others are ex-military and 3 sing together in a Male Voice Choir – but they share the common passion of a love of cycling in the great outdoors – plus a desire for a challenge later in life, whilst also raising funds for a fantastic local cause.

Brecon Mountain Rescue Team is a dedicated team of volunteers who provide an emergency rescue service 24-hours a day; 365 days-a-year – saving the lives of those most in need, throughout 700 miles of mid Wales. The Team receives no external funding and is therefore reliant on its own fundraising activities and those organised by other groups and individuals, to raise the circa £65k needed for running costs each year.

One of the “6 Men”, Chris Kerr is himself a member of Brecon Mountain Rescue Team. He says:

“The Land’s End to John O’Groats” route is a popular one for many people, but it remains a big challenge to complete – particularly later in life! Our little gang are looking forward to pushing ourselves physically and mentally, learning some new things about ourselves and others, whilst also raising money for a wonderful and vital cause - we'll no doubt have some laughs along the way too”.

Any support you can give - large or small - will inspire every turn of the wheel for us! Thank you so much in advance!
