Story

Welcome to DAR's Strides for Sanctuary, Sponsored Walk 2025, an inspiring event organized by Darlington Assistance for Refugees (DAR). Our community is coming together to champion the vital work of supporting refugees, creating lasting change one step at a time.

This sponsored walk is designed for everyone—with a scenic, linear route spanning between 6 and 15 miles. Enhancing the day’s spirit, this event coincides with the town’s celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Stockton Darlington Railway (SDR) with the route designed to take in a large part of the original SDR route. For those preferring a shorter journey, there is an option to catch the train halfway. While we encourage participants to fundraise in support of DAR's initiatives, we believe in inclusion; every step taken matters, regardless of the amount raised.

We are also proud to be collaborating with Stockton's Refugee Futures who are hoping to join us for some or part of the day. This unique fusion of historical pride, contemporary community care, and collaborative support honours our shared heritage as we stride toward a future of hope and solidarity.

Step forward with us and make your mark in advancing the mission of DAR—supporting refugees and celebrating the strength of community!
