Together we can make a difference in the lives of women and children who are recovering from trauma of domestic abuse!

Story

Domestic abuse is a shadow pandemic, crawling in our society. Women and children are its most affected victims. It is sometimes difficult to identify abuse, especially for young people like students, who are experiencing it.

This year, the University of Edinburgh Economics Society is continuing to partner with Edinburgh Women's Aid (EWA), a local charity that has been providing support for women and children in Edinburgh affected by domestic abuse for 48 years. Just in last year, EWA supported approx. 2000 women and 150 children - victims whose mental health, safety, homes, and lives were threatened.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made domestic abuse an issue needs more attention than ever. Financial insecurity, social distancing and limited access to friends and family have made both escaping from an abuser and recovering from abuse even more frightening and difficult. Women and children whose lives are affected need support now more than ever.

For this Christmas appeal, we are challenging our committee and members to fundraise £1000 together. Funds raised will provide food, other essentials, and Christmas gifts for women and children in refuge at EWA over the christmas holidays.

Any amount of donation will be a meaningful help to the women and children in need. Thank you for your donation!
