On 1st April 2022 Official Guinness World Record Holder x 3, Portsmouth News Years Honours 2020 Hero, Great Run Most Inspirational Runner 2019, Portsmouth News Spirit of Youth Winner 2018, Superhero Series Everyday Superhero, Alinker Athlete, London Marathon and Great South Run Trailblazer, Alinkerlympics Champion: HARLEY SALTER and Diana Award Holder, Young HDA Fundraiser of the Year 2018 and HDA Fundraising Ambassador: JESS WEBB, will launch the 50:50 Challenge for Huntington’s Disease Association as part of the 50th Anniversary of HDA UK and it’s #50MyWay year of fundraising.

Between them, Harley and Jess have raised almost £40,000 for the HDA alone with Harley raising around £12,000 cumulatively for various local charities.

This is NOT an April Fool. This is happening.......50 days of 50 challenges starting on 2nd April 2022 and running for 50 consecutive days ending on 21st May 2022.

There will be a different challenge every day ranging from endurance challenges to something quite ordinary to something just completely silly. A program of challenges has been created by Harley’s Mum, Vanessa Salter, with the challenge option for each day being determined by the toss of a 50p coin. At times (to be decided during the challenge period) an alternative 50:50 public vote on Harley’s social media platform Instagram @harleysalter may be used.

Jess will support Harley in person or remotely for some of the challenges in addition to pledging to do her own personal challenge to span across the 50 days: “Press Up to Push Up” - 50 days, 50 people, 50 places, 500 push ups! Each day Jess will do a minimum of 10 press ups to help push up the donations.

Huntington’s Disease is a rare genetic progressive, degenerative neurological condition for which there is currently no cure. Research into a cure and effective treatments is ongoing and encouraging It is caused by a faulty gene resulting in an excess of a protein called Huntingtin in the brain. If someone has that gene they will develop Huntington’s Disease in later life. Onset of symptoms usually starts between 35-40 years of age and life expectancy is around 15-20 years from diagnosis/symptoms. Children of parents who have the gene are at 50/50 risk of having the gene themselves and therefore at 50/50 of developing Huntington’s.

Both Harley and Jess have lost family members to Huntington’s Disease. They are very keen that this fundraiser not only raises essential funds to support research and local families in Hampshire and Isle of Wight, but they also want to raise awareness of the condition.
