Story
Hi, we’re running the 2026 TCS London Marathon in an effort to fundraise for the Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and would greatly appreciate your support!
The people at GOSH work tirelessly to improve the quality of life and health of thousands of children. We know this first hand through our younger brother/son, Josh, who has a very rare brain disorder called Hemimegalencephaly. Essentially, the left half of his brain is underdeveloped, severely stunting his overall development and resulting in him suffering from epilepsy. We didn’t think he would ever walk, or understand what we were saying. However, after years of treatment by the surgeons, doctors and nurses at GOSH, Josh can now walk by himself, feed himself, and although he can’t reply, we do believe he understands what we say to him.
Back in 2013, dad (Alan) ran the London Marathon in aid of GOSH as a thank you for their support at the very beginning. So it gives me (Harry) immense pride to be able to follow in his footsteps, and say thank you for the present, walking and laughing Josh.
Although we’re aware that GOSH have a large fundraising profile, it is through our connection with them that we realize just how important donations are, which don’t just help run the hospital, but help the families who have been uprooted from their home, under immense stress whilst their child is in treatment. For example, they have a patient hotel. Although it’s basic, it gives the families of these children a place to stay right opposite the hospital. They also have a small school for children in long term care, so they aren’t missing out on the crucial foundations of learning. Having been there, you really do get a true appreciation of how vital these things are to the children, and their families.
Harry:
As I have already highlighted. It gives me great pride and honour to be running the London Marathon for GOSH, as I am following in my dad’s footsteps. He is my inspiration, and it will be his knowledge and guidance I rely on as I train for this challenge.
Alan:
Well, I guess it’s a case of never again, yet again. I have a feeling that this is going to be the most challenging of my eleven London Marathon’s given my advancing years! I am very proud and honoured to be running with Harry and also for such a great cause.
Our fundraising target is set at £5000, however it would obviously be great to try and exceed this and we would be very grateful for any donation, big or small.
It will make a difference for these children, and their families.
Many thanks.
