Alex and Henry Climb Stairs! - fundraising for Amnesty International UK

Raising money for Amnesty International UK

UK Kilimanjaro 27th August 2026 Student · 27 August 2026 to 5 September 2026 · Start fundraising for this event

A team of students at Glasgow University will be raising money for Amnesty International UK and preparing to trek Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak in 2026.

Story

We are raising money for Amnesty International UK by taking part in the Mount Kilimanjaro Challenge. This August, we will be climbing the highest mountain in Africa over nine days, facing extreme temperatures, high altitude, and challenging terrain along the way.

This page is for a joint event between us (Henry and Alex), where we will be climbing the height equivalent of the mountain within our university student hub (the James McCune Smith building) on the 4th and 5th of March. Climbing repeatedly to the 7th floor of 266 times! It will be an intense test of our minds and bodies as we try to ascend 5,895m (19,341ft) as quickly as possible.

Your donations will help Amnesty International UK expose human rights abuses in the UK and around the world through its campaign for freedom and justice. Amnesty International UK works on a wide range of issues, including but not limited to: women's rights, refugee rights, LGBTQ rights, economic inequalities, racism, the climate crisis, and protest freedoms.

Amnesty International as a whole is the world's largest grassroots human rights organisation, with over 10 million members worldwide. This means they hold power, power to effectual positive change. Amnesty can put pressure on governments and corporations to force change and mobilise people worldwide to act. Critically, they have investigated and exposed numerous human rights violations worldwide, leading the humanitarian charge against war crimes, abuses of power, and crimes against civil liberties. For example, their work in Palestine, Iran, Afghanistan, or Uganda has been invaluable for exposing and combating these issues.
