Story
The IFS Foundation is currently supporting a village in Sri Lanka called Weralugahamula.
Having already renovated and expanded their primary school buildings and completed the recent construction of a new computer lab, the next logical phase is to build a new secondary school building. The current unit is not fit for purpose. Leaking roof, multiple year groups sharing the same room, insufficient capacity to extend effective learning all the way through year 12.
Approvals have been secured to complete the work, and the planning stage has begun.
The final project in this village will be rebuilding staff living quarters. In Sri Lanka, teachers are expected to work in remote schools for four years before being given a posting near to where they live. Staff quarters are essential to mitigate long commutes or teacher absenteeism.
In 2025 the GCS and RND organisations raised a significant amount of money to go towards this development, and in 2026 we want to do it again, but this time as one organisation… PCO!
