Raising money for Peace Hospice Care, Royal Free Charity and Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care

Story

On 26th September 2023 Dad passed away peacefully, 5 months after being diagnosed with advanced adrenal cancer.

In memory of Dad we will be running the London Marathon in April 2024 for the Royal Free Charity and in October 2024 we will be doing a marathon walk along the Cornish Coastal Path for the Peace Hospice.

The first of the charities we are raising funds for is the Royal Free Charity. Dad spent 5 weeks in the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead in April and May 2023. During this time we found out the devastating news about his diagnosis. Hospitals and the staff that work in them are under a huge amount of pressure and this charity provides vital support for the patients and the staff that work there. We are so grateful for the Royal Free Charity as it was responsible for some of our most uplifting moments during a very dark time. The charity organises therapy dog visits to patients. Dad was visited by a very greedy little dog called Stanley who never failed to put a smile on his face. As well as supporting patients, the Royal Free Charity provides vital support for the wellbeing of the staff by providing emotional support sessions, rest spaces and mental health first aiders. Additionally, the charity is funding world-leading research into revolutionary treatments and therapies for patients. Any donations will help to continue providing patients and staff with support at the times they need it most.

The second charity we will be raising funds for is the Peace Hospice. Dad spent his final 7 weeks with us under the exceptional care of the Peace Hospice in Watford. The Peace Hospice provides end-of-life and respite care for patients with terminal illnesses. We will forever be grateful for the compassion, care and support shown to Dad and all of us during his time at the hospice. The care Dad was given allowed us to spend precious time as a family with the knowledge that he was always comfortable. Dad developed incredible relationships with all the doctors, nurses and care assistants and was so grateful for everything they did for him. The Peace Hospice is largely run by charitable donations, therefore all funds raised will help them to continue providing incredible care and support for other patients and their families.

Thank you for any donations and support you can give.
