As part of Team BMG's fundraising challenge to raise £35,000 by 2023 I'm raising money for the June Wiseman memorial fund, for Heart Research UK (see https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/teambmg for further details).

June had been my manager and close friend since 2003. She was hugely supportive and inspiring in both my work and personal life, so it means a lot to me to be raising money for Heart Research UK in her memory, and knowing that we will be helping to save and extend the lives of heart patients across the UK in the process.

My dad suffered a heart attack at the age of 52 which he was convinced he would die from, as his father had at a similar age. Thanks to advances in treatment over the years he survived. He passed away in 2017 at the age of 68, but I will always be very grateful for all the extra years we got to enjoy together and especially that these extra years meant he got to know and spend many happy times with his grandsons. So the events I'm doing for Heart Research UK are also in memory of my dad.

In 2020 I raised £175 for June's memorial fund by completing the Great North Run solo challenge. This year I have set myself a target of £350 and hope to achieve this over the course of various events and challenges including a 63+ mile walk up the Northumberland Coast in May, and The Great North Run in September.

All funds will go to the June Wiseman memorial fund which is raising money for Heart Research UK Masterclasses (https://heartresearch.org.uk/masterclasses-2/). These events, hosted in the UK, bring together heart surgeons and health professionals from around the world, to share knowledge and expertise of often life-saving surgical techniques. This shared knowledge of topics such as heart bypass, aortic surgery, and heart transplantation will benefit heart patients from across the UK for many years, and ultimately help save and extend lives, creating a lasting legacy for June.
