Story
It has taken me 78 days since August 2022 to walk the 630 mile South West Coast Path from Minehead in Somerset to South Haven Point, Poole. This achievement I am told means I have climbed the equivalent of Everest four times and the final day was my 78th birthday! I have walked with family, friends and HF holidays but also enjoyed many miles on my own. Others do it in one go and in much less time but for me it as been the most beautiful, inspiring and challenging adventure in my life. I have chosen to support 2 charities who do incredible work around our coast and only on voluntary donations.
I hope to raise a worthwhile but fairly equal donation to both charities. If you would like to add a something – no matter how small, I would be very grateful. The funds will support those who ensure we can continue to relish access to the beautiful coastline around our unique Island and protect it for the future. Thank you so much.
THE SOUTH WEST COAST PATH ASSOCIATION'S mission is simple: to allow people to experience the health and wellbeing benefits of connecting with nature, now and for generations to come. They rely on charitable donations to preserve the UK's best-loved National Trail which makes a difference, both to the 9 million+ users each year, and the local communities that the Path serves.
THE NATIONAL COASTWATCH INSTITUTION has stations on many remote headlands, manned by dedicated and friendly volunteers. I was welcomed when I visited many stations to get my passport stamped, as I was walking up and down, and in and out, of the many rocky inlets of this stunning but challenging coast. National Coastwatch - The Eyes along the Coast - keep a daily visual and listening watch for anyone in difficulty so HM Coastguard can send experts to the rescue.
