A marathon has always been on my list but I’ve never plucked up the courage… until now. When stood, doubled-over at the end of a half marathon, the thought of having to repeat the feat has always seemed crazy. But I like a challenge, so here goes. On 7th April, I plan to make my way round the 26 miles course in Paris.

To spur me on, I’m running in aid of two charities which are doing vital work - Shelter and Medical Aid for Palestinians.

Like so many across the globe in recent weeks, I’ve watched in horror as events in Gaza have unfolded. At the time I write this, since October 7th, more than 20,000 Palestinians have been killed and 2m have been displaced from their homes. Medical Aid for Palestinians exists to provide immediate medical aid to those in great need, while also developing local capacity and skills to ensure the long-term development of the Palestinian healthcare system. Both will be desperately needed in the coming months.

Closer to home, I’ve always thought that I’d raise money for Shelter if I did a marathon, for several reasons. A place to call home is something everyone should have a right to, but too few do. Shelter have provided me excellent support and advice as a renter, and their campaigning work is top notch, pushing for change across our complex housing system.
