Each year, the young people and adult volunteers of Penistone Scouts’ parade through the town centre of Penistone before taking part in a service of Remembrance both outside and inside St John’s Church. We do this proudly alongside other youth organisations, the British Legion and other fabulous volunteers. Sadly, due to Coronavirus, the group are unable to take part in this important and prestigious moment of respect. We refuse to let the occasion pass by without acknowledging it.

Given that we will be unable to give monies via some of the traditional methods to the annual Poppy Appeal, we’ve come up with an alternative. We have created this JustGiving page where donations to the Poppy Appeal can be made.

We are asking all our members, those who would attend Remembrance Sunday with the group, or anyone who wishes to donate, to give what they ordinarily would have via this JustGiving Page. As a group, we’re sending every group member a commemmerative uniform badge. If every member gives just £1, we’ll achieve our target. Obviously, we’d love to raise a lot more.

We’ve done it this way rather than collecting monies at the Scout group so that the British Legion will benefit from the associated Gift Aid savings made when donating via JustGiving
