Story

There are many words to describe the top bloke, Liam Bergin...although that's a great way to put it, a top bloke.

Always with a witty anecdote, a slightly far-fetched but definitely true tale and a knowledge of food and drink like no other.

Many of us taking part in this 'almost' Triathlon, knew him from Burnage bar Reasons to be Cheerful and all of us (and so many more) miss him very much.

Liam was diagnosed in 2020 with an aggressive glioblastoma multiforme and sadly passed away in June 2023. Our love for Liam and family is a big one and we've talked for a while about doing something in his memory to raise money for a cause he so successfully supported since his diagnosis, raising over £40,000. So this is it...

On 26th May our dazzling dozen aka 'Reasons to be Running' will be taking on the Manchester 10k and on 22nd June Paul Finley will be swimming the 5.25mile length of Coniston.

And finally, the cycling! On the 1st of September, a group from the R2BCVC, of which Liam was a founding member, will pedal their way through the Manchester 100. This ride will mark the grand finale of our "almost triathlon," a massive community effort that we're sure Liam would have absolutely loved.

We'd all massively appreciate your support and donations small and large (if you're feeling generous!) for this wonderful cause and help find a cure for all types of brain tumours.

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.
