Story
🏜️ Four Parents. 100 Kilometres. One Life-Saving Cause.
This November, we — Jacob, Roberta, Jo and Olwen, four parents from Bounds Green — are taking on a huge challenge: trekking 100km across the Sahara Desert to raise money for Race Against Blood Cancer.
It’s a small charity with a powerful mission — to tackle health inequalities by getting more people, especially from underrepresented communities, onto the stem cell and bone marrow donor register.
Why this matters to us - Jacob's POV
In 2015, a close friend of mine was diagnosed with a type of blood cancer I’d never heard of. That moment set me on a journey to understand more — and what I found shocked me.
In the UK, if you’re white European, you have a 4 in 5 chance of finding a life-saving stem cell match. But if you’re Black, Asian, Mixed or Minority Ethnic, that drops to just 1 in 5.
Race Against Blood Cancer is working to change that — and they already have. In the last 10 years, they've helped over 20 people find a match that gave them more time with their families.
But there’s so much more to do.
How you can help
We're taking on the heat, the blisters, and the miles — but we need your support to hit our fundraising goal.
Your donation will help Race Against Blood Cancer:
Run more donor drives
Educate people about the register
Give more patients the second chance they deserve
Every pound you give takes us one step closer to a more equal system — and could help save someone’s life.
Thank you so much for your support.
With love and determination,
Jacob, Roberta, Jo & Olwen
