Raising money for Cancer Research UK and NHS Charities Together

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am raising money for NHS Charity Together and Cancer Research UK.

I was set to run the London Marathon in April 2025 and started training in July 2024. All was going well until I fell ill in February 2025. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and needed an operation. I had the surgery at end of March which went well, I needed no further treatment, and I'm thankfully now cancer free.

Unfortunately during the surgery, nerves in my right leg were damaged and this left me unable to walk. Over the last 10 months, I have focused not only on my general health recovery but rehabilitation and physio to build the strength up in my leg again. Finally, in mid December, my physiotherapist gave me the green light to run, slowly, she added.

So here I am, ‘running’ the Marathon in April 2026. I started training again just before Christmas, walking, and now also running slowly. My right leg is not yet fully recovered, and probably never will, and I don't really have long enough time to train for a marathon, but I will persevere and hopefully I can finish the course.

I was in hospital for a total of 30 days over two stints last year, I cannot thank NHS enough for saving my life, taking good care of me and for their continuous support. I'm also grateful to Cancer Research UK for their fight against cancers. So many people are affected by this horrible disease, not just the patients but their families and friends. I hope you can donate to either charity that I support. Thank you.
