Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.

Story

Ride for Ray – Brain Tumour Research Charity Ride

Join us for Ride for Ray, a charity cycle ride in memory of Ray Sweeney and in support of Brain Tumour Research.

Ray was a loving partner to Beth, a devoted father to Nieve and Myles, a cherished son to Angela and Mick, and a much-loved brother to Holly. Above all, he was a loyal friend to many who loved him greatly. Known for his warmth, humour, kindness, and unwavering support for those around him, Ray had a way of bringing people together and making everyone feel welcome. His loss has been deeply felt by all who knew him, and this ride is an opportunity to celebrate his life, honour his memory, and support a cause that became so close to his family and friends.

The ride will begin and finish at Elland Road, taking in some of West Yorkshire’s most scenic canal-side routes. Riders will travel through Leeds Dock, Kirkstall, Rodley, and Apperley Bridge before returning to Elland Road, covering approximately 20–22 miles at a comfortable social pace.

The day is about much more than cycling. It’s an opportunity to celebrate Ray’s life, share memories, support his family, and help fund research into one of the most underfunded forms of cancer.

One in three people in the UK knows someone affected by a brain tumour. This disease is indiscriminate; it can affect anyone at any age. Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease since records began in 2002.

Brain Tumour Research is determined to change this. It is the only national charity focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours.

By taking part, donating, or supporting this event, you are helping fund vital research and giving hope to families facing the same journey.
