Story
I am running either a half marathon or a marathon through the Sahara Desert to raise money for the charity Sandblast which supports refugee families and children within the Western Sahara Desert. I will be running along side one of my closest friends Liz who will for sure bring her bulletproof mindset to the project ❤️
The reason my distance is undecided until nearer to the time is because I have a stage 3 chronic illness called Endometriosis. This is extremely unpredictable and it will depend what distance my body is capable of at the time. But I will be doing as much as I feel I can!
The charity is dedicated to building awareness and solidarity to the indigenous Saharwis of Western Sahara. In 1975, their homeland was forcibly occupied by Morocco. This has resulted in families being displaced in harsh camps in Algeria. With no place to call home, raising money with this charity will provide the families with artistic and educational programs to amplify their voices to achieve their unrecognised right to self determination and strengthen their threatened culture.
During this challenge, I will be spending a week in the camps, living with the families to deeply understand their culture and a first hand experience of what my fundraiser will support as well as running on one of the days.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated and welcomed. Going towards families and children who don’t even have land to call home, any money which can be given will make a world of difference to their future.
Thankyou!
