Story
from Alyssa: As a woman who’s family has been affected by breast cancer for 4 generations, I have always been hyper aware of the need to check my buubs as early as possible. My Mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 35, which I will be when the race comes around (woo just got a little emo writing that 🥹). I had my first mammogram at the age of 25. My next will be this year and for peace of mind I’ve been doing self exams for as long as I can remember! I am here to say, it’s not as scary as you might think. The rules around breast screening are a bit archaic if you ask me, in the US it usually starts at 40 and the UK age 50. We should all be feeling our titties as frequently as possible! In the US, 1 in 8 women will have breast cancer, it really does affect everyone!
CoppaFeel! are the UK’s only youth focused breast cancer awareness charity, and we’re on a mission to get every 18-24 year old checking their chest.
We educate people on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer and encourage them to check their chests regularly, so that if they notice something unusual they are empowered to contact their GP and advocate for themselves. We do this because when diagnosed early and accurately, breast cancer treatments are more effective and survival rates are higher. Early detection truly can save lives.
