June is Scoliosis Awareness Month
AIS Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis is the most common type of scoliosis in children effecting 2-4% of children during their pre teen and teen years, where the spine grows in a curved and rotated way. Clinical audits demonstrate that in the UK only around 10% of children are diagnosed while the curve(s) are small enough for conservative treatment, in Europe its around 20-30%. This discrepancy is due to awareness in the general population and in general practice of effective treatment options for smaller curves. Conservative treatment has been proven to be effective at reducing the chance of surgery and bracing is recommended by the BSS (British Scoliosis Society)
This year a small group of technicians, CAD designer and Clinical Specialists and support staff have got together to raise awareness of scoliosis and the fantastic work Scoliosis Support and Research do in raising awareness and supporting patients and their families.
They will be doing a walk in the Peak District taking in Mam Tor and the Blue Johns Cavern area on the 29th of June
Please help by raising awareness, spreading the posts, and if you can, donating to the SSR though JustGiving to support their fantastic work.
