Story

The Scottish Seabird Centre is a conservation and education charity (Registered Scottish Charity no. SCO25837) that inspires and educates people about the Scottish marine environment, motivating people to care for it and supporting conservation projects.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic the Centre has temporarily closed its doors. For a small charity, heavily reliant on the income from their not-for-profit visitor attraction, as well as fundraising activity, this closure has resulted in a very turbulent financial period for the charity.

Dawn, Charlotte, Caroline, Jordan and Mal, all members of the Centre, have taken up 2.6 challenges (background info below) to counteract the turbulence created by these harsh times by raising vital funds for the centre.

Dawn's challenge can be seen here: Dawn's 2.6 Challenge

My 2.6 challenge is to 'row to the Bass Rock' , which is the world's largest colony of Northern gannets. The Bass Rock sits approximately 2km offshore. I will row the equivalent of 2.6km on a rowing machine.

Charlotte's challenge can be seen here: 'Birds of a Feather' - 2.6 challenge

The aim of 'Birds of a Feather' is to bring people together to celebrate and support some of the best things in life; Wild places and the people who protect them; Family and friends; Shared experiences; Time outdoors. Anyone can participate! Join the flock and take part in 26 minutes of any outdoor activity on Sunday 26th April at 2.06pm.

Caroline's challenge can be seen here: Caroline's 26*26 Metafit Madness

As suggested by my neighbour who's a PT (langlandshealthandfitness.com) I am going to do 26 metafit exercises 26 times each to help raise funds for my lovely work The Scottish Seabird Centre. We are a charity and are really needing as much help as possible at this time. Even a £2.60 donation can make all the difference.

Jordan's challenge can be seen here: Jordan's 2.6 Challenge

This year on the 21st May the Scottish Seabird Centre is turning 20, with the current situation we may not be able to celebrate as we hoped but we can still do something to honour this milestone. I have chosen to walk 26,000 steps in 20 hours starting 1pm on 26th April.

Mal's challenge can be seen here: Mal & Family 2.6 Challenge

My wife likes it when I am working and not under her feet. My kids like coming to my work to play and see cool stuff and I ...well I love doing science shows with bad gags and great science. So the challenge is this, we are going on a series of walks around the garden, the kids bedrooms, and the local green area for a total 2.6 miles.

General info about 2.6 challenge: Thousands of fundraising events have been cancelled and and many charities, particularly smaller ones, are struggling to maintain services because of this huge reduction in income. In absence of the world’s biggest one-day fundraising event, the London Marathon, due to take place on Sunday 26th April, challenge 2.6 has been set up to continue the raising money! To mark the date of the cancelled marathon, people are invited to take part in fundraising challenges containing/based around the numbers 2 and 6.
