Story
Thanks for visiting our page!
We are George, Isabella, Jacob, Liora, Nadav, Nathan, Olivia, Samson and Sydney…this year’s cohort for Stanmore Shul’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah programme!
Recently, we made history by becoming the first community programme to officially partner with a Youth Village in Israel (it’s in Hadera, near the beach, and it’s called ‘Talpiot’), through our friends at Jewish Child’s Day (we love them!).
Before we get to the ‘ask’, let’s tell you a bit more about these amazing organisations…
What is Talpiot?
Talpiot Village supports 200 children and provides services to hundreds more, aged between 5-18. Often referred by social services or by court order, most of the children at Talpiot have experienced neglect or abuse in their homes. Talpiot acts swiftly to restore calm and normalcy to their lives by establishing a stable, supportive and sensitive environment. The children are placed in one of ten residential care units within the village. Each of these is run by care-giving foster families who provide the love, attention and support the children deserve but have often been denied.
What is Jewish Child’s Day?
Jewish Child’s Day (JCD) is the UK’s leading grant giving Jewish charity. They have been transforming lives of children in need around the world for 76 years, which is much much older than us! Each year, over 25,000 Jewish children rely upon on them to save them from deprivation, disadvantage, abuse and neglect. JCD works closely with organisations around the world to understand where there are funding requirements and to ensure the grants they award support the children and young people whom need it most, in the most direct manner. One of the projects JCD support is Talpiot Youth Village, which is what led them to us…
How can you help?
As part of our partnership with JCD and Talpiot, we have each ‘twinned’ with a boy or girl from the Village and have started joint events and projects with them. In September, we plan to fly our ‘twins’ over to London for the trip of a lifetime! We will finally get to meet them in person, show them the sights and celebrate Shabbat with them as they enjoy a much-needed break.
But we need your help to do this. Please help us to help our twins from Talpiot. We will be running the Maccabi Fun Run on Sunday 23rd June as a team and will also be individual fundraising through this page until September. Our target to bring over our 11 ‘twins’ and their staff/carers is £12,500.
Thank you so much for your help, we appreciate any donation you give!
