Story
Sometime in the early hours of August 9th 2022 Joe Grew, wonderful son, brother and friend, died in his sleep, completely unexpectedly, from a Cardiac Arrest. As far as we can tell, subsequent screening of first degree relatives and the wider family, at the ICC unit at St. Georges Tooting, has shown that Joe would have had a concealed heart condition called Brugada Syndrome.
Joe will be remembered for his gentle, kind nature and as a rail enthusiast with a particular interest in A4 engines designed by Sir Nigel Gresley. A group of us will be walking as "Team Mallard" in Joe's honour and to raise awareness of the amazing work of CRY in screening, bereavement support, research into and prevention of Young Sudden Cardiac Death.
Every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions.
With your donation, CRY can reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD) by working with cardiologists and family doctors to establish good practice and appropriate screening facilities to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young.
By supporting CRY you will help save young lives from these potentially fatal cardiac conditions.
The Bridges Walk each year hopes to give supporters the opportunity to connect with others, and remember those who have died from Young Sudden Cardiac Death (YSCD).
