Story
Each year millions of people make journeys across water. For most of us this passage is safe however for many it is not. Every day, those fleeing persecution and conflict need to make perilous journeys to seek safety.
This year, as a way to stand with people who need to make dangerous journeys, Freedom from Torture North London Supporters Group, is hosting a fund raising challenge.
Freedom from Torture is a charity, which for 30 years has provided therapeutic, medical and legal support for survivors of torture. https://www.freedomfromtorture.org/
We are a one family, multi-generational team taking ourselves into the unfamiliar (for us) territory of London's canals, to kayak Horsenden Hill to Little Venice (and back - 14 miles) and/or the Limehouse Loop, starting from Springfield Park (10 miles +) between September 28th and October 31st. The team consists of Thomas, Katy, Rachel, Mark and Paul Nunn. We know this is outside the dates set for the Challenges, but, as happens, we have faced organisational problems (delivery delays, bad weather, ill-health etc).
If you can, please sponsor us and support the careful work Freedom from Torture do with some of the most vulnerable people in our society.
Well, we did it! The Regent's Canal (Paul, solo - Horsenden Hill to Little Venice and back), the Limehouse Loop from Springfield Park twice, (Thomas, Katy, Rachel and Paul, one day, with Mark in support on his electric bike) and Mark (twice) with his friends Brian and Chris, later in the month. An average of about 25 kilometers
each. A great time was had by all, even when Paul fell into the canal...
THANK YOU so much to all our supporters and donors here and abroad, on behalf of all those suffering from the effects of torture! We exceeded our target by some distance thanks to you all!!
