Story
A group of Wilkie employees are taking on the Dundee Kiltwalk Mighty Stride this August to raise money for Young Lives Vs Cancer.
One of our Directors put forward the heartbreaking and courageous story of her close friend whose little girl Riley, who at only four years old was diagnosed with Leukaemia. She has been so incredibly brave and has about a year left of treatment. Heartbreakingly in April Riley's little sister Georgie, who turns two in July, was also diagnosed with Leukaemia. This was an incredible blow to the family.
This is so incredibly rare for two siblings to have this condition. The family have received support from some amazing charities supporting them through this turbulent time financially, emotionally, send them on holidays, arrange toys/ food, etc.
This story touched the hearts of Wilkie employees as this is something no family expect to deal with once let alone twice. We asked the family which charity they would like us to raise money for in dedication to their cause - Young People Vs Cancer.
And as if we needed anymore motivation for our Kiltwalk, only a few weeks ago our General Manager John learned that, sadly a dear friend of the family, Lindsey’s wee boy Arthur had also been diagnosed with Leukaemia. Arthur is nine years old and is being very brave while undergoing his first session of chemo at the Edinburgh Sick Kids. John’s grandkids Mack, six, and Izzy, four, both pals of Arthur are raising money for the same charity through their own just giving page by doing a mile every day!
If they can do it, we are sure their Papa can make it through the Mighty Stride too!
Any donations to this worthy cause would be so greatly appreciated by all those involved.
