We are trying to reach a total distance of 4000 miles throughout the month of October to help refugees access education.

Story

Hope for the Young are an amazing charity that supports young refugees to access education and rebuild their lives in the UK through financial support, advocacy and mentoring. Those they support have travelled thousands of miles from their homes to reach safety, often on their own.

Based on an average distance of the young people's journeys, Hope for the Young has organised a Team Challenge Event to try and reach a combined distance of 4000 miles throughout the month of October - and we are going to try and help them!

Bound together by the phrase "it would be cool to do a bike ride one day", our team consisting of Tim Barnby, Sam Biggins, Matt Blacker, Tom Knight-Gaynor, Sam Cooper, Mani Ahmed, and Marco Hacon are attempting to cycle a total distance of 1,500 miles throughout the month of October in aid of such a great cause.

Each week, we will be donning our brand new padded pants and lycra vests in an effort to clock up as many miles as we can. Our plan is to end the month with an almighty 100-mile bike ride attempt in small groups from London to Hastings via Brighton and the Ditchling Beacons...in just one day (Google maps is telling us this will take us over 10 hours!)

When discussing what we need for the event, the conclusion was that "bike shorts, snacks and sudocrem" will see us through to the finish line...therefore, we are going to need all the support we can get.

It's been an incredibly difficult time for small charities like Hope for the Young this year, and even more so for the young refugees they support. We hope that our efforts will play a small part in helping them keep their life-changing programmes running.

Any donations will be greatly appreciated and will make such a difference to many young people's lives.

Thank you for your support...(we're really going to need it!)

UPDATES:

15th October: Two flat tyres, numerous epic falls from our new clip in pedals and cold wet weather resulting in the loss of feeling to most parts of our bodies has made for an eventful training regime. Yet, we have so far managed to reach a collective distance of 500 miles! Still a long way to go!!
