Story
Anyone who knows me well knows I have a real passion for running, but this will be my biggest challenge yet. On May 17th, I’ll be taking on the 100k Jurassic Coast Challenge, raising money for two incredible charities that are very close to my heart.
In August 2024, our son Freddie was diagnosed with Galloway-Mowat Syndrome (GMS or GAMOS), a rare and life-limiting genetic condition. As a parent, being told that your child has a terminal progressive disease is devastating. Nothing prepares you for it. After countless medical appointments and the initial shock of his diagnosis, we were faced with an overwhelming and uncertain future. That's when Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice and Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity stepped in, providing much needed support for Fred and our entire family.
Both charities do extraordinary work. Chestnut Tree House has provided us with a dedicated care support worker, helping to build a tailored care plan for Fred. We’ve also attended their open-day events, where over the festive period, we met Santa (I’ll attach a pic!), enjoyed their hydrotherapy pool, and been invited to use respite care services. Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity has given Freddie incredible opportunities to thrive through swimming lessons, music therapy (which he loves!), and conductive education. Their support is truly life-changing for him, helping him to realise his best potential.
No parent ever wants to find themselves needing these services, but for those who do, they are absolutely invaluable. The support we’ve received is hard to put into words, helping us navigate the challenges of Freddie’s condition with care, compassion, and practical assistance.
I really want to give a little back so that other families can continue to receive the help we've been given.
This run is more than just a personal challenge for me. It’s for Fred. It’s for both these amazing charities. It’s for every family who needs their support.
If you’re able to donate, even just a little, it really would mean the world to us. Every contribution makes a difference.
Thank you so much!
