Walden Open Water [WOW!]

Raising money for Level Water

12hr Swim Relay: Dusk till Dawn - Jesus Green 2026 · 27 June 2026 to 28 June 2026 ·

This Is More Than a Swim It’s a challenge, a celebration, and a wild 12-hour adventure. From night swims under the stars to sunrise relays and firepit huddles, the Dusk till Dawn is a test of endurance, community and joy.

Story

We're a team of four swimmers taking on an extraordinary challenge: a continuous 12-hour overnight relay swim from dusk till dawn at Jesus Green Lido in Cambridge, raising money for Level Water.

On paper, it sounds quite civilised — sharing the distance between four people and taking turns through the night. In reality, it means repeatedly climbing in and out of a cold outdoor pool at hours when most sensible people are fast asleep!

Our team is made up of founder members of Walden Open Water (WOW) from Saffron Walden. United by a love of swimming, particularly open water swimming, we're training hard to tackle this unique challenge and support a cause that means a great deal to us.

We're swimming for Level Water, a fantastic charity that provides one-to-one swimming lessons for children with disabilities. These lessons help children build confidence, gain independence, develop vital life skills and, most importantly, experience the joy of being in the water.

Every £15 donated funds one life-changing swimming lesson. That's why we're doing this, and why your support means so much.

Between us, we've taken on a few challenges over the years. One team member hasn't asked for sponsorship since a bungee jump in a pub car park back in 1998, which raised the grand total of £48. Another was delighted to be invited by fellow swimmers to join this event because any excuse to spend more time in the water is a good one. And if our fundraising reaches £500, there may even be a brand-new tattoo involved!

The challenge will test our stamina, determination and ability to function through the small hours, but knowing we're helping disabled children access the water will keep us going through the darkest parts of the night.

If you're able to donate, no matter how small the amount, you'll be helping to fund life-changing lessons and giving more children the opportunity to enjoy the water safely and confidently.

Thank you for supporting us as we Swim The Night Away!
