This PMOS Awareness Month, I’ve decided to take on a personal 30-day challenge: 10,000 steps every day, for a total of 300,000 steps, to raise awareness and funds for Verity, the UK charity supporting people living with Polycystic Metabolic Ovary Syndrome (PMOS), formerly known as PCOS.

I chose to support this cause because PMOS is so much more than a name or a diagnosis. It can affect many different aspects of a person’s health and wellbeing, from hormones and fertility to metabolic and cardiovascular health. Yet despite how many people it affects, there is still so much misunderstanding surrounding the condition. Too many people experience symptoms that are dismissed, struggle to get the support they need, or feel like they have to navigate their journey alone.

That is why I believe awareness matters.

I want this challenge to be more than simply reaching 10,000 steps each day. I want every step to represent a step towards greater understanding, better conversations and better support for those living with PMOS.

Through its work, Verity raises awareness and tackles stigma, provides information and support to the PMOS community, helps improve healthcare through education and training, and supports research and evidence-based care. Their work is important because meaningful change begins when people are heard, understood and given the support they deserve.

For the next 30 days, I’ll be walking 10,000 steps a day — 300,000 steps in total — and turning those steps into something bigger than myself. One step closer to a world where no one living with PMOS feels unheard or alone.
