Story
Last year, we lost someone truly remarkable. Wes was a devoted husband, a loving dad to three young children, a cherished friend, and a much loved member of our community. He faced cancer with extraordinary courage. Even as his illness progressed, he continued to stand on the sidelines coaching the girls, giving them every ounce of energy he had until his body simply couldn’t carry him any further. His loss has been felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Wes believed deeply in the power of community and in the importance of standing together through both the good and the difficult times. Family was at the heart of everything he did, and he carried those values into every part of his life. He had a way of bringing people together, lifting spirits, and creating hope even in difficult moments. His wife and three young children carry his values with them, and as a community we are committed to honouring the qualities he lived by his kindness, his generosity, his belief in togetherness, and the hope he inspired in everyone who knew him
Therefore, to honour Wes, we are organising a truly unforgettable community fun day on Sunday 28th June from 12–4pm at the Junction Pub, Rainford. It will be vibrant celebration filled with joy, connection, and togetherness, the kind of day he would have embraced wholeheartedly.
All funds raised will go to Liverpool CHICS (Children’s Cancer Support), a charity that supports a child and their family from the moment of diagnosis for as long as they need it. Their work includes providing practical advice and guidance, running support groups, and organising activities, day trips, and events that offer families precious moments of joy during incredibly difficult times. The charity was founded in 1986 by parents whose children were treated at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, and it is run by people who have lived through the experience of having a child with cancer. Liverpool CHICS relies heavily on community fundraising, and we want this event to make a meaningful difference.
