Story
We’ve joined Team World Land Trust for the Miles for the Wild challenge to help protect threatened land and species. Together, we’re aiming to virtually travel 5,247 miles (8,445 km) - the distance from WLT’s Suffolk office to the location of their Autumn Appeal: El Silencio Reserve in Colombia.
At a time of climate crisis and mounting biodiversity loss, it's never been more important to support the work of charities like WLT. With more than 3.3 million acres already protected in concert with local communities, WLT have made a real impact on the natural world, and now we can too!
In just the past 50 years, more than 70% of ancient forest in Colombia’s Middle Magdalena Valley has gone. Forest continues to be lost due to cattle ranching, a man-made canal threatens vital wetlands, and extraordinary species such as the Antillean Manatee and Brown Spider Monkey are perilously close to extinction.
This landscape is at a tipping point. If we do not act now, it will face further destruction and fall silent forever.
Your generous donation will:
- Enable WLT's partner Fundación Biodiversa Colombia’s (FBC) to expand their El Silencio reserve by 1,495 hectares (3,694 acres)
- Fund the employment of two rangers to protect and restore the land for the next three years
- Safeguard the Barbacoas lake and the livelihoods of local fishing communities
- Protect Critically Endangered species, many of which exist nowhere else in the world
El Silencio echoes with the sounds of nature. We cannot let it fall silent.
