Story
With the war spreading across Sudan, it is now the largest displacement crisis on earth. The armed conflict has displaced an estimated 15 million people, 53% of whom are children. Many are living in temporary camps where conditions are abysmal.
Famine is spreading fast and desperate families face a daily struggle to get food as young children starve to death in cities, villages and displacement camps
The US determined in January this year that the RSF and allied militias have committed a genocide.
"The RSF and allied militias have systematically murdered men and boys - even infants - on an ethnic basis, and deliberately targeted women and girls from certain ethnic groups for rape and other forms of brutal sexual violence," then-Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said.
Communities are reporting horrific violence such as mass rape of women and civilians being enslaved or buried alive and the UN children's agency, Unicef, gave harrowing accounts of armed men raping and sexually assaulting children as young as one. Diseases such as cholera and dengue fever are also rife, as most people lack access to healthcare.
