Story
With the war spreading across Sudan, it is now the largest displacement crisis on earth. The armed conflict has displaced an estimated 15 million people, 53% of whom are children. Many are living in temporary camps where conditions are abysmal.
Through Islamic Relief’s Sudan Appeal, we are delivering life-saving aid to those affected.
Famine is spreading fast and desperate families face a daily struggle to get food as young children starve to death in cities, villages and displacement camps

Around 28,700 people are estimated to have been killed, but the real death toll is likely to be much higher as fatalities are believed to be underreported. The death toll from hunger, disease and lack of basic services could rise far higher.
Communities are reporting horrific violence such as mass rape of women and civilians being enslaved or buried alive.
Diseases such as cholera and dengue fever are also rife, as most people lack access to healthcare.
Sudan is on the verge of famine
Children are now dying of hunger and Islamic Relief staff are seeing a rapid increase in the number of malnourished children in the health and nutrition centres it supports, with some children so emaciated they can barely breathe.
Many families are having to share a single meal a day – often just a couple of pieces of kisra (a thin local pancake made from sorghum), or a cup of boiled leaves.

Many farmers are displaced and others face attacks from armed groups who loot crops. Some have told Islamic Relief that it is too dangerous to access their fields to plant or harvest crops, while trucks carrying food to markets are regularly looted.
Food prices have drastically increased in the last two years – and more than doubled in many areas.
The humanitarian situation is dire, with families struggling to survive and meet their basic needs.
Islamic Relief is delivering life-saving humanitarian aid in Sudan

Islamic Relief has worked in Sudan since 1984, providing lifesaving aid to those in need.
Sudan is now one of the most dangerous and difficult places to deliver humanitarian aid, with dozens of aid workers killed, offices looted and regular bureaucratic obstruction.
Despite the challenges Islamic Relief has delivered vital aid to more than 1.2 million people all over the country. But much more is needed as the violence spreads.
Islamic Relief has worked in Sudan for over 40 years, and remains by the sides of families caught up in the violence. Please support our life-saving work and donate now.
