Story
It is an annual tradition for MAA UK to support a charitable cause and raise money for various projects. This year we will be raising funds towards a Model Village Project in The Gambia with IAAAE (International Association of Ahmadi Architects and Engineers)
We are raising money as a region to get to our target of £2,500!
Within the month of Ramadan we have challenged all Atfal to raise at least £50! This will help kickstart your charity campaign for the year, and put you in a great position to take part in the various events we have planned throughout the year.
We will encourage further fundraising within the coming months with various national and regional events being organised.
Who are IAAAE and What is a Model Village?
IAAAE stands for the International Association of Ahmadi Architects and Engineers. They are a group of professionals who use their expertise in engineering and design to help alleviate problems across the world. They work prominently in the Africa continent working towards solutions to alleviate water poverty and bring electrification to rural locations. To date over 3.5million people have benefited from the water pumps, solar off-grid systems and villages they have rehabilitated.
One key project for IAAAE is the Model Village. A village is selected that has no foreseen investment or infrastructure to be installed by the government. Normally, women and children in the village travel many miles for water and have very limited access to electricity. The project aims to bring a solar water system and various solar outlets to the habitants. A community centre is also built, where the people can host social events and hold educational courses. Roads and pathways around the village are also constructed as well as toilets and sanitation infrastructure. Other enterprise projects are also supported within the village, like farming tools, livestock investment or vocational education courses.
