Story
Hi, Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.
On Sat 5th August we will be competing in The London Triathlon in a team relay consisting of a 1500m swim, 40km bike, 10km run. I will be braving the merky waters of Victoria Dock , Martin will attempt to be caught on speed camera whilst cycling the streets of London and Dom will be running like the wind in an attempt to make a decent finish and perhaps even a place on the podium.
Why are we doing this? We are raising money for the refurbishment of the Mountbatten Ward, which is the Paediatric Liver Unit in Kings College Hospital, London. This unit is the largest of 3 specialist paediatric liver units in the UK and provides treatment to children from all over the UK and Ireland. Not so long ago 6 out of 10 children with liver disease died and with some diseases the mortality rate was 100%. Today the survival rate is 96% and continuing to improve. BUT, the Mountbatten Ward is in urgent need of modernisation.
The unit is in the process of trying to raise £1.8m to complete a full refurbishment. They have managed to secure £1.0m from central funding and are seeking to raise the balance from other fundraising events. GBP 25,000 to 30,000 will provide the full refurbishment of a counselling room for family and friends of the children in the care of Kings and also provide for a fully kitted out play area which will be fantastic given that many children are long term patients. We want you to help us raise this money. Please spend a few minutes reading more about this appeal at http://www.valuebahn.com/starfish.ppt and once you have done that, dig deep!!
