Story

Hi Eveyone,

The Angie Le Mar Show Team is in full training and getting ready to take part in the Hydro-Active Challenge in September.

The team made up of Presenter- Angie Le Mar, Contributer-Akosua Annobil-Dodoo and Producer- Patience Chinwada, are going to be running in aid of the ACLT.

The ACLT is the only Black and Ethnic Minority charity in the world that raises awareness around Leukaemia, Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma, Aplastic Anaemia and all other blood related cancers. The ACLT host bone marrow registration drives trying to finding matches for patients in BRITAIN,  AFRICA, and THE CARIBBEAN.

Did you know that the chances of finding a matching bone marrow donor from within the Black and Mixed Race communities is currently 1 in 100,000 simply because the Black and Mixed Race communities do not register as potential life savers and so sufferers within the community are dying needlessly. The charity was started in 1996 when a 6 year old named Daniel De-Gale was diagnosed with Leukaemia; his parents were told that he needed a bone marrow transplant to survive. At the time there were barely any Black donors on the world registers his family were told that at the time he had a 1 in 250,000 of finding a match. His parents (Beverley De-Gale and Orin Lewis) started the ACLT charity and went into the community to educate and recruit. Daniel eventually found a match in June 1999 and is now 20 years of age and attending university.

The ACLT has almost single-handedly raised the numbers of potential donors of colour in the and continues to raise awareness, recruiting donors and finding matches for many other sufferers around the world. The charity’s work has expanded in recent years and in order for them to continue the ground breaking work we must support them in their endeavours to educate, recruit and ultimately to save lives. Cancer affects 1 in 3 of us and so let’s help them to help ourselves to help each other! Please look at their website for details of the work being carried out by this very worthy charity www.aclt.org <http://www.aclt.org/>

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor us online.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT) will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Beverley and Orin, the founders of this charity really need more people to get involved and show the world that people of colour do care about each other and are willing to put their money where their mouth is!
