On January 16th 2009 I had a headache and was being sick all day, we thought it was just a migraine but later on rashes were found on my back and arms and legs and I was rushed to the emergency doctors. From there I went to A & E. In the early hours of the 17th January I was moved to intensive care and sedated and put on a ventilator it was discovered I had meningococcal meningitis. After 3 days I was moved to a normal ward and told I was lucky to be alive, the meningitis had spread out of my spinal fluid and into my blood. I then spent a further 12 days in hospital fighting off the disease.
I then spent many more months building up my strength again. The Meningitis Trust are a group which help to raise awareness of the meningitis symptoms and give the much needed support to the families of those who have had a much worse outcome at the hands of meningitis.
So, to celebrate the fact I am still alive and have had no serious lasting affects from meningitis we are all running the 10k Great Manchester Run on 16th May 2010. All donations will be much appreciated as so far I cannot run more than 50m without getting tired =D
