Three Peaks Challenge 2009
A small team of men are preparing to conquer the three biggest mountains in the UK from start to finish in 24 hours..
What It's All For
On 16th January 2008 I (Tom Puttick) was involved a car crash along the A320 resulting in a broken leg, severed hand and multiple cuts, bruises and pains. This left me with screws in knee, a semi-functional hand and 3 months of recovery. At the time i was unconcious but after being cut out of my car i was air lifted to hospital by the Surrey Air Ambulance. By the time i woke up i was laying in hospital unable to move but was put straight back to sleep and put into theatre for the first part of my surgery.
A year on, i still have the screws in my knee and still dont have full movement in my hand but the fact im here to say this makes me happier than anything in the world. My friends and family have been awesome and i thank all those who have been there. Despite not being allowed to play any sport yet and even having to miss out on some snowboarding trips, a group of us are walking the Three Peaks Challenge to mark the anniversary of the crash and raising as much as we can for the Surrey Air Ambulance to say Thank You and to help them continue with their amazing, yet unappreciated, support.
When It's All Happening
We are starting the trek on the 23rd May 2009 and will hopefully complete it in 24 hours. We will be starting at Ben Nevis (Scotland), then driving down to walk Scafells Pike (England), then completing the journey at Snowdon (Wales).
The total journey is approx: 1260 Miles
The total walking is approx: 3407 Meters
Who's Involved
The Three Peaks Team so far consists of Tom Puttick, Mark Puttick, Steve Puttick, Peter Puttick, Sean Pentony & Nick Heron.
Keeping Updated
We will be keeping an up-to-date log of our event and uploading pictures & videos whilst charting our progress during the trek. Please head to (and bookmark) http://3peaks2009.wordpress.com. All updates and any important announcements will be made on that site as to keep you informed.
A final video will also be made after the event which will cover the entire trek from start to finish.
Sponsorship
We are hoping the Surrey Advertiser will provide a feature for us before the event to raise awareness of it but also provide a photo of it following the event as we have a large banner provided by the Surrey Air Ambulance which we will use for a photo on top of one of the mountains. There will be teamwear worn throughout the event which will also feature any sponsors we have.
We THANKYOU for your SUPPORT with this, as you know all the money goes straight to the SURREY AIR AMBULANCE, we dont see a penny of it!
